My final outcome for Visual Communication in Context 1
My magazine publication is a special edition supplement for Type Radios, about Peter Bilak’s interview with them.
The theme of my design is based around something Bilak says in his interview…
“Dance is comparable to typography because both rely on rhythm and harmony”
This piece of editorial design cossets of a limited colour palette and some simple yet effective layouts. The use of negative space in these layouts works brilliantly with image and text.

Varoom – the illustration report is devoted to exploring the world of illustration and image-making and it’s place in society. It looks at practitioners from around the world who are making significant contributions to the ancient art of illustration, and provides writers, commentators and illustrators with a platform from which to take a critical look at trends and developments in the illustrated image. Each issue, experts select the best in their fields to showcase in Varoom, including best in digital, graphic novels, publishing, fashion, children’s books, reportage and more.
Varoom is 64 pages, published four times per year. Readers can subscribe or buy individual issues here and at good bookshops around the world.
Incredible illustrations by Minjae Lee
Lee uses markers, pens, crayons and acrylic to create the drawings, featuring women and characterized by an atmosphere of mystery and drama.
Looking at his work, you can understand how Lee is inspired by Japanese photographer Hiroshi Nonami, whose work mainly features women in mythical and magical atmospheres.
